In January, Apple told the world it would deliver its iPhone in June via AT&T's Cingular Wireless. The most likely date for delivery -- or at the very least a more specific announcement -- is reportedly June 11, which is the first day of the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco.

The wireless industry may be buzzing over Apple's soon-to-be-released iPhone, but Verizon Communications president and COO Dennis Strigl doesn't seem concerned. "If you're looking at a phone at a $400 or $500 price point, we know from our experience with PDAs, that it's a very small market," he said.

When Apple's iPhone gatecrashed CES two months ago, it forced the cellular industry's hand. At Florida's CTIA Wireless 2007 show this week, it forced them to fold. Buzz, if nothing else, has won the first round.

Apple is saying only that its iPhone will ship in June. Cingular, however, is being more open and is telling customers the combination iPod/smart phone will be available on June 11

THERE HAS BEEN plenty of hype and what-if analysis ever since Steve Jobs announced the iPhone but now it seems there might be a release date: 11 June.
