A report from Taiwanese publication Digitimes says smartphone manufacturers Samsung, HTC, LG and Nokia are launching their new products in Q2 2012 instead of Q1 in order to avoid direct competition from Apple’s iPhone 4S.

An online petition asking Apple to "address dangerous conditions in factories" making the next iPhone has gotten 35,000 signatures in the first 24 hours of the effort.

Major smartphone makers like Samsung, HTC, and Nokia have booked Q2 releases for their newest handsets to avoid direct competition with the red-hot iPhone 4S, reports DigiTimes.

An iPhone developer has acknowledged that a recent update to one of his apps includes the hidden ability to tether the smartphone to a laptop, circumventing carrier fees for the service.

With the nearest competitor Verizon reporting only 4.3 million iPhone activations for the quarter, it seems AT&T has done really well to retain as well as lure new iPhone customers.
